AMLO promises to inaugurate the Interoceanic Train in 3 months

President Andrés Manuel López Obrador estimated that the Interoceanic Passenger Train in the Isthmus of Tehuantepec will be inaugurated within three months.

The Trans-Isthmian Corridor is in an advanced stage of construction and is expected to be inaugurated in August or September, with regular operations starting in December of this year, according to the president's statement. However, there are still track laying and station construction works remaining in different sections of the over 300-kilometer route, from Coatzacoalcos, Veracruz, to the port of Salina Cruz, in Oaxaca.

On May 19th, the president ordered the expropriation or "recovery" of the concession of the Ferrosur tracks, which had been held by businessman Germán Larrea since 1998, with the aim of ensuring the successful completion and operation of the project. The president expressed his determination not to leave anything unfinished and announced that he will increase supervision visits to the area to expedite the works.

In addition to the construction of the railway corridor, other works in the region were mentioned, such as the remodeling of the refinery and the construction of a coke plant and a breakwater in Salina Cruz. The rehabilitation of the Minatitlán and Salina Cruz refineries was also highlighted, along with the construction of 10 industrial parks along the train route.

The president reaffirmed his commitment to generate employment and welfare for the population of the southeastern region of the country through the development of infrastructure and industrial projects in the Isthmus of Tehuantepec.
